Y2K Compliance Product Readiness Tables 3D Systems Solid Imaging

3D Systems' product readiness tables are listed below. They are divided into the two major 3D Systems product lines, Office Systems and Industrial Systems. Each row provides readiness status and upgrade information for a specific system, controller and software version combination. In general, for 3D Systems to certify Y2K Readiness for any product, it must be running a Pentium controller and the indicated software release.

If you do not see your equipment combination listed, please contact the 3D Systems' Year 2000 coordinator.

Notes:

  1. All 3D Systems' products using Windows NT 4.0 have been delivered with Service Pack 3 installed. Microsoft has declared Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 to be "Compliant" with minor issues. We have determined that those "minor issues" do not affect our products and therefore, we are declaring our product delivered with Windows NT, 4.0 and Service Pack 3 as Y2K ready.
  2. To ensure readiness, the 3D Systems' software must be running on a supported Year 2000-ready workstation and Year 2000-ready operating system. Please contact the workstation manufacturer for readiness information and operating system patches.
  3. Microsoft has announced continued support for Windows NT 3.51 and has determined that Windows NT 3.51 workstation with Service Pack 5 installed is Y2K "Compliant". Recently, Microsoft identified some Y2K issues with Windows NT 3.51 and Service Pack 5 that are remedied with the application of a "hot fix". 3D Systems has determined that its products are compliant without the "hot fix". Customers may choose to apply the "hot fix" if they so desire.
  4. While the software continues to function properly after the year 2000, some log dates after January 1, 2000 will not be displayed properly.
  5. Microsoft has announced that MS-DOS 6.x is "Compliant".
  6. SLA 190 and 250 Buildstation software versions 3.84 and earlier have problems with erratic laser shutdown following the Year 2000 crossover.

Upgrade Programs:

3D Lightyear and Buildstation 5.0: 3D Lightyear, a Windows NT-based replacement for Maestro, is 3D Systems' new SLA part preparation software product. The build file (.r, .v, .l, .prm) suite produced by 3D Lightyear is compatible with SLA 190 and 250 systems running Buildstation software versions 3.83, 3.84, and the Y2K-Ready version 3.86. The build files (.bff) produced by 3D Lightyear are also compatible with Buildstation 5.0 - the corresponding release of SLA control software for SLA 350, 500, 3500, 5000, and 7000 systems. Because 3D Lightyear and the Buildstation 5.0 products are a matched set, they are bundled into a single software package. The 3D Lightyear/Buildstation 5.0 software is packaged with every 3D Systems' SLA product. Unlike Maestro, which was licensed only as a single-user product, a user site may install 3D Lightyear on as many workstations as desired, and may install Buildstation 5.0 on all the SLA systems they own.

The 3D Lightyear/Buildstation 5.0 upgrade policy is listed below.

  • Free of charge to customers who purchased an SLA system that was delivered after August 31, 1997 (This includes all SLA 3500, SLA 5000, and SLA 7000 systems).
  • Free of charge to customers who purchased Maestro after August 31, 1997, or who had a Maestro software maintenance contract in effect on December 31, 1998.
  • $3,500 for all customers who had an SLA maintenance contract in effect as of December 31, 1998.
  • $3,500 for all customers who sign(ed) up for a 1-year SLA maintenance contract after January 1, 1999.
  • $9,500 for all others.
  • A $3,500 credit toward the purchase of the 3D Lightyear 1.0/Buildstation 5.0 software package is offered with the purchase of an SLA Pentium controller upgrade for SLA 190/250 (UPG-190/250), and SLA 500 systems (UPG-500). To be eligible for the credit:
    • The order must be placed after July 1, 1999, and
    • The hardware upgrade (UPG-190/250 or UPG-500) and the 3D Lightyear 1.0/Buildstation 5.0 software package must be placed on the same order.

Note: The pricing above is U.S. local pricing and may not apply outside the U.S.

3D Systems will send the 3D Lightyear/Buildstation 5.0 package to all customers who qualify for "free of charge" upgrades beginning July 1999. Others, please contact your 3D Systems' sales representative for ordering and delivery information.

Buildstation 3.86: This Buildstation upgrade is for SLA 190 and SLA 250 systems, and can be downloaded free of charge from our web site. Click here to go to the download area.

Pentium Controller Upgrades UPG-190/250 and UPG-500: 3D Systems will not be testing non-Pentium controllers for Y2K Readiness. Therefore, for 3D Systems to certify Y2K Readiness, the SLA system must be running with a Pentium controller. For the last few years, all 3D Systems' products shipped with Pentium controllers. Earlier SLA 190, SLA 250, SLA 500 systems shipped with 486 or even 386 controllers. The UPG-190/250 and UPG-500 upgrade packages, along with the appropriate control software, bring these systems to certifiable Y2K Readiness. These upgrades are not covered under any 3D Systems maintenance contract. Please contact your 3D Systems sales representative for pricing and delivery information.
